ASH Transmissions (2025)
Steel plate, magnesium powder, potassium nitrate, FM transmitter/receiver, electronics, fire.
Between 9th and 19th of June of 2025 I curated the Sonoscultura sound art residency at Oficinas de Convento in Montemor-o-novo, Portugal together with Portuguese media artist Inês Castanheira. We invited 5 artists from around the world to produce a sound art exhibition in ten days.
My installation work for the final exhibition Elemental Echoes at the Galeria Municipal do Montemor-o-Novo was ASH TRANSMISSIONS (2025). By burning magnesium metal you start an FM transmission between the altar and the big metal plate, resulting in a symphony of noise, overtones and corrupted radio transmissions. The big metal plate is both a speaker and an antenna. Once the fire is out, all that remains is ash.
The full exhibition Elemental Echoes was on view from 19th of June until the 19th July 2025 at the Galeria Municipal do Montemor-o-Novo.
