Wouter Jaspers

Wouter Jaspers is a experimental composer, soundartist and musician from Tilburg, The Netherlands, who currently lives in Berlin, Germany. Wouter Jaspers creates dark repetitive music, psychedelic soundart combined with electro-acoustic elements and fieldrecordings.. He has no specific instrument he plays, but mostly performs with electro-magnetic waves, analog synthesizers and modified electric guitars.

The last couple of years he has been very productive, both in touring as in releasing music. Jaspers travels a lot for his music, which you hear back in his work. In 2007, Jaspers released the cd “Babi Yar, an exploration” as an honor to the victims of the mass murder in Babi Yar, Kiev, Ukraine in 1941. On his first official full-length album “Exhibition”, released in the spring of 2008, he translated fieldrecordings he made in Ukraine, India, Poland and Germany into new compositions. For this cd he also travelled to the concentrationcamp of Theresienstadt and used fieldrecordings from the radioactively infected territory around Tsjernobyl.

In 2009 he recorded his second  full length album “Glorious Days” with guestappearances by a.o. Emil Nikolaisen from Serena Maneesh and Koen-Willem Toering from Woost. To promote the album he toured in Europe, the USA and Asia. The reviews for “Glorious Days” were very positive, naming the album: “a giant step forward in compositions, sounds and vision: this is the work of a young man growing up.” The record marked also his step to move from Tilburg to Berlin, Europe’s main arts city.

Over the last couple of years, he collaborated live and on record with a.o. Sten Ove Toft, Audrey Chen, Steffan de Turck, Vincent Koreman, Roel Meelkop, Eric Arn, Emil Nikolaisen, Marlon Penn, Helena Sanders, Sudden Infant, Jon Eriksen and Norman Kapoyos. Official collaborations: Ezdanitoff (together with Frans de Waard), The Professional Skaters (together with Sten Ove Toft), Preliminary Saturation (together with Steffan de Turck) and the duo: Audrey Chen vs. Wouter Jaspers. He also founded the noisepopband Meldy Peaches, but left the band to persue his own dreams in music.

In 2011 he will release several new records with a.o. Jos Smolders (from THU20) and Staplerfahrer, a split cd with Ashtray Navigations, a new cd with Audrey Chen and some EP’s with extended and remixed tracks of his last two full lenght albums. To his vision, music has to spread out to everybody who wants to hear it, so he plays from hi-brow artfestivals all over the world to garages in Russia, sometimes soft and laidback and sometimes killing for your ears, but always with a great passion for his one only love: music that actually has a story to tell.
